About Whitney McLaughlin

My name is Whitney McLaughlin. I am a soon-to-be graduate from the University of Denver majoring in Psychology and minoring in Human Wellness and Writing Practices. While my roots will always be in San Francisco, I love my new home in Denver. I am a passionate runner, curious learner, a loyal friend, and of course, a writer.

But... There once was a time where I did not consider myself a writer. I mean, I pushed off taking an introductory writing class for as long as I could due to the fear of not being good enough. The traditional rules and expectations suppressed my creativity and I thought that was the only way to become a good writer. Follow the rules. But as I became more comfortable with myself and DU, my curiosity and a desire for a challenge lead me to explore my capabilities within the world of writing.

This ePortfolio will show you who I am as a writer and how I got here. The pieces I have carefully chosen contain snippets of what I am passionate about, my dreams, and the things that have shaped me into who I am today - as a person and a writer. Through my time in the DU writing program, I have found my voice and the style that works for me.

I can now confidently say I am proud of my writing. I find joy in expressing my thoughts and emotions by putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). I wouldn't be the writer I am today without the many assignments and classes I have taken over the past few years. But wow, I am so glad I took that leap of faith.
